The Speedmaster 74 DI

The Speedmaster 74 DI represents the next generation of digital offset presses. It brings all the benefits of Direct Imaging to the medium format, fulfilling the market’s growing need to meet even more urgent deadlines and produce top-quality results with shorter runs.

Faster and Faster

The market for high-quality offset-printed items is in flux. Mounting pressures from tight deadlines and shorter runs, the need for flexibility in handling different substrates, and more acute quality awareness from our clients are the factors driving today’s printing market. In a global digital environment, there is a need for new solutions that can be relied upon well into the future. The Speedmaster 74 DI from Heidelberg offers a concept in the 29 inch medium format, that combines tried-and-tested quality with innovative technology. The Speedmaster 74 DI supports just-in-time deliveries within hours and provides flexibility to handle a multitude of different customer requirements. It takes advantage of all the benefits of a digital workflow right through the press.

With the Speedmaster 74 DI, the plates are imaged directly on the press. This speeds up the makeready process significantly. Straightforward operation using the CP2000 Center and the ability to process a wide range of different printing stocks make the Speedmaster 74 DI a user friendly system.

Speed from the very outset

The Speedmaster 74 DI is designed specifically for the frequent job changes required when processing short runs.Rapid imaging and fast makeready times speed up printing quite considerably and dramatically reduce non productive time and greatly enhance productivity. As soon as the Delta RIP has generated the bitmaps for a particular job, the operator can download them into the press-even while a job is still running. After automatically mounting the processless thermal printing plates using Heidelberg AutoPlate (no tools required), the operator uses the touchscreen of the CP2000 Center to launch the simultaneous imaging process in all printing units. In a maximum of 3.5 minutes, the plates are imaged to the full 29 inch format at a resolution of 2,400 dpi and registration is accurate without the usual dot gain experienced with conventional plate exposure processes. The processless thermal printing plates do not need to be posttreated. Automatic ink presetting reduces startups waste and cuts makeready time considerably.

Performance and Quality

The 29 inch medium format of the Speedmaster 74 DI is a perfect fit for the multi page catalog market, books, and covers many poster formats as well as offering more opportunities for mixed forms and multiple up jobs. This sheetfed press from the world’s leading press manufacturer meets even the most rigorous quality demands. The outstanding features and extreme flexibility of the Speedmaster 74 DI are geared precisely to the needs of the highend top quality printing market.
